Schtûbat ... in the summer

In the past, guests were called Sommerfrischler or “summer visitors” by the locals in the Bregenz Forest. This name speaks volumes. In the intermediate altitudes of the Bregenz Forest, the summer is not too hot for sports activities but warm enough to visit one of the many swimming pools or take a refreshingly cool dip in the Bregenzer Ache River. Mountain bike tours and hiking paths have excellent signposts that show the various difficulty levels from beginner to professional.

Schtûbat is the ideal starting point to pursue other outdoor sports: paragliding, hang-gliding, climbing, canyoning, tennis, golf or kayaking – just to name a few. The choice of offers is stunning.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The Bregenz Forest has an exceptionally large range of mountain bike tours. Many paths lead to the traces of living culture: to Alpine pastures and high Alps, as well as through villages and fields along the Bregenzer Ach River in the valley. The bike path from Egg to Schoppernau is ideal for beginners and leisurely family cyclists. The Bregenz Forest is still an insider's tip for mountain bikers: some routes have just been newly designed. They are excellently mapped out with kilometre information, elevation profiles and available resting places in the Bregenzerwald Mountain Biking Map.

Tour suggestion:

From Andelsbuch to the Berchtoldshöhe

Starting and finishing point of the tour: Andelsbuch village centre

Short description: Andelsbuch – Heimgarten – Bregenzerach – Schwarzenberg – Maien – Lorenapass – Berchtoldshöhe – Kaltenbrunnen – Egg – bike path – Andelsbuch

Description: This tour runs almost exclusively on paved roads and is also perfectly suitable for beginners. From the village centre in Andelsbuch, the ride leads down to the Bregenzer Ache River on narrow roads. The Andelsbuch power plant can be seen from here. The Art Nouveau building from 1908 was among the largest hydroelectric power plants of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Then the tour continues through peacefully situated settlements up to the Schwarzenberg Mountain. After a short stretch on Bödelestrasse, you reach the Lorenapass on little-used roads through forests and meadows. The path goes slightly uphill and downhill to the Berchtoldshöhe, and then down to Kaltenbrunnen. After riding down to the valley on Bergstrasse, the bike path from the village centre in Egg will take you back to the starting point.

OUR SERVICE FOR MOUNTAIN BIKERS: Lockable bike room, corner with tools, pump, lubricants and assembly stand; facility for drying biking clothes, washing area for your bike!

HIKING

The mountains in the Bregenz Forest invite you to scenic panorama trails such as on Niedere Mountain, challenging high-altitude hikes or spectacular summit climbs that require alpine surefootedness. Andelsbuch is seen as the perfect starting point for a choice of ambitious or leisurely hikes in the mountains. The village is located on the main road in the valley and can also be easily reached by public transport.

The admission ticket to these mountain experiences is the Bregenzerwald guest card. You will get a Bregenzerwald guest card if you stay with us for three or more nights. It is included in the price of the accommodation.

PARAGLIDING

Paragliders feel especially at home at our house: They can see the Niedere Mountain and observe the weather from the comfort of their room. The Andelsbuch cable railways are within walking distance.

The flying area of the Niedere Mountain between Bezau and Andelsbuch can be reached with the chairlift from Andelsbuch or the gondola cableway from Bezau. Due to the unique micro climate influenced by Lake Constance, there are many flight days that allow for hours of thermal flying and slope soaring. The Andelsbuch side is the glider mecca in the summer and also considered as a pure summer flying area from April to September with western and north-eastern starting directions. The Bezau side is the corresponding winter flight area from September to April with a southern starting direction.

WEGE ZUM WASSER

In Andelsbuch there are many paths to the water.
There are the Brühlbach waterfalls, one to the most beautiful sites of natural beauty as well as the Bregenzerach with two reservoirs and the hydroelectric power station, a building of nouveau art - you should not miss it! It became operational in 1908 as one of the largest and modern hydroelectric power stations of the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy. Until nowadays it has been modernised several times and is still operating. Some years ago a child-friendly playground was built at the equalizing reservoir. Nice ponds to refresh you will find in the riverbed of the Bregenzerache in the "Tanna“. Having barbecue is allowed there...
