Come to Schtûbat ...
Welcome to Andelsbuch, in the middle of the Bregenzerwald!
Schtûbat – a name worth experiencing
Deeply rooted in the region, we are familiar with the traditions and customs of the Bregenzerwald and its residents. We want to express the values that we live and communicate them to the outside world, which we also do in the language of the valley community with its own independent dialect. Authenticity on all levels is important to us, and you can feel what this is. Travellers don’t need a translation to sense our hospitality and the life behind the name.
In the Bregenzerwald >Come to Schtûbat< ii a loving invitation to visit and spend a cosy time together in the living room...
Take a break with us, lean back, leave behind the routines of everyday life and simply feel welcome!

On holiday at the Schtûbat ...
... treat yourself to time off -
at the newest apartments in Andelsbuch!
We are not entertainment coordinators or masters of ceremonies. Instead, we are interested in living our hospitality and loving our job that is more of a calling. We want to treat our environment in a way that stays in touch with nature and is conscious of its tradition. This is not about kilometres of ski-runs, elevation gain or maximum calorie consumption, but intensive, pleasurable experiences and hearty moments that should have a lasting effect with a maximum of joy. You are allowed to let go so that you want to get up again. You are also allowed to lose yourself for once so that you can find yourself again.
Look forward to a holiday in a carbon-neutral house with a solar and water-heat pump. It was built using a sustainable construction method and has untreated furnishings of regional quality.
The new Schtûbat apartments leave nothing to be desired. With the finest materials from the region and the expertise of craftspeople from the Bregenzerwald, the apartments were renovated in style for an unforgettable stay. Enjoy this new approach to holidays in the middle of the Bregenzerwald!

Tempory Inn in the Bregenzerwald!
Farmers from the Bregenzerwald region are Wolfgang Mätzler’s cooperation partners. The veal comes from Andelsbuch, kid from Egg, lamb from Bezau, the fish is caught in wild local waters and the venison is from our forests. The vegetables and herbs are from our own garden or farmers in surrounding areas. Meat products, cold meats, ham and bacon were developed by master butcher Stefan Ritlop and produced completely without any additives (E numbers).
We roast, stew, cook, grill, steam, pickle, preserve, cure and serve according to cooking traditions and customs of the Bregenzerwald – for our guests and cooking enthusiasts who appreciate authenticity both in the preparation and consumption of high-quality dishes. The Chef's Table invites you to linger, enjoy and have a leisurely exchange. It allows space for authenticity and is intended to serve as a return to the essential elements. Look forward to a special kind of experience!
But since we only cook when nature provides us with a delicacy or when one of our suppliers comes up with something special, we kindly ask you to register on our site with your name and mobile number so that you don't miss out on the special cooking event, a unique dinner or extraordinary brunch, an unconventional cooking class or simply everything that involves a discerning palate! We will notify you about our culinary events via SMS and would be delighted to have you join us!

Schtûbat - Info
Schtûbat ... in the summer
In the past, guests were called Sommerfrischler or “summer visitors” by the locals in the Bregenzerwald. This name speaks volumes. In the intermediate altitudes of the Bregenzerwald, the summer is not too hot for sports activities but warm enough to visit one of the many swimming pools or take a refreshingly cool dip in the Bregenzer Ache River. Mountain bike tours and hiking paths have excellent signposts that show the various difficulty levels from beginner to professional.
Schtûbat is the ideal starting point to pursue other outdoor sports: paragliding, hang-gliding, climbing, canyoning, tennis, golf or kayaking – just to name a few. The choice of offers is stunning.
The Bregenzerwald has an exceptionally large range of mountain bike tours. Many paths lead to the traces of living culture: to Alpine pastures and high Alps, as well as through villages and fields along the Bregenzer Ach River in the valley. The bike path from Egg to Schoppernau is ideal for beginners and leisurely family cyclists. The Bregenzerwald is still an insider's tip for mountain bikers: some routes have just been newly designed. They are excellently mapped out with kilometre information, elevation profiles and available resting places in the Bregenzerwald Mountain Biking Map.
From Andelsbuch to the Berchtoldshöhe
Starting and finishing point of the tour: Andelsbuch village centre
Short description: Andelsbuch – Heimgarten – Bregenzerach – Schwarzenberg – Maien – Lorenapass – Berchtoldshöhe – Kaltenbrunnen – Egg – bike path – Andelsbuch
Description: This tour runs almost exclusively on paved roads and is also perfectly suitable for beginners. From the village centre in Andelsbuch, the ride leads down to the Bregenzer Ache River on narrow roads. The Andelsbuch power plant can be seen from here. The Art Nouveau building from 1908 was among the largest hydroelectric power plants of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Then the tour continues through peacefully situated settlements up to the Schwarzenberg Mountain. After a short stretch on Bödelestrasse, you reach the Lorenapass on little-used roads through forests and meadows. The path goes slightly uphill and downhill to the Berchtoldshöhe, and then down to Kaltenbrunnen. After riding down to the valley on Bergstrasse, the bike path from the village centre in Egg will take you back to the starting point.
The mountains in the Bregenzerwald invite you to scenic panorama trails such as on Niedere Mountain, challenging high-altitude hikes or spectacular summit climbs that require alpine surefootedness. Andelsbuch is seen as the perfect starting point for a choice of ambitious or leisurely hikes in the mountains. The village is located on the main road in the valley and can also be easily reached by public transport.
The admission ticket to these mountain experiences is the Bregenzerwald Guest-Card. You will get a Bregenzerwald Guest-Card if you stay with us for three or more nights. It is included in the price of the accommodation.
Tip: Bregenzerwald Hiking Map
All hiking tours and information on cable railways, huts and alpine guest houses are summarised on the Bregenzerwald Hiking Map in a practical and clear way. The hiking map is available at Bregenzerwald Tourism and in the Tourism Office.
Paragliders feel especially at home at our house: They can see the Niedere Mountain and observe the weather from the comfort of their room. The Andelsbuch cable railways are within walking distance.
The flying area of the Niedere Mountain between Bezau and Andelsbuch can be reached with the chairlift from Andelsbuch or the gondola cableway from Bezau. Due to the unique micro climate influenced by Lake Constance, there are many flight days that allow for hours of thermal flying and slope soaring. The Andelsbuch side is the glider mecca in the summer and also considered as a pure summer flying area from April to September with western and north-eastern starting directions. The Bezau side is the corresponding winter flight area from September to April with a southern starting direction.

Schtûbat ... in the winter
The amount of snowfall in the Bregenz Forest is above average due to its location at the northern edge of the Alps. Damüls even has the nickname of "Snowiest Village in the World," and the amount of new snow in Warth-Schröcken is about 11 metres per winter. These are ideal conditions for all winter sports activities from alpine to cross-country skiing or sledding to snowshoe hiking. A cross-country ski trail with a winter hiking path runs right past Schtûbat and offers a leisurely round on the Andelsbuch village plain.
People who prefer bigger ski areas have the best starting position from here. They are far away from the hustle and bustle but still in the most beautiful ski areas of the Bregenz Forest…
In Andelsbuch and on Niedere Mountain, we can fully enjoy ourselves and the winter in many different ways. There is hardly another mountain in the Bregenzerwald that can compete with the Niedere in terms of its popularity with tour hikers, snowshoe hikers and off-piste skiers. For both beginners and advanced athletes, Niedere Mountain offers many options for winter sports activities. Although some may see it as an inconspicuous mountain in the middle of the Bregenzerwald, it always offers new challenges for those who appreciate it. ...
You can look forward to what is probably most intensive winter sport! A cross-country ski track and skating trail pass directly by Schtûbat. We would also be glad to organise a private course for you.
The cable car takes you from the valley to airy heights in a few minutes and rewards you with breathtaking views and a magical winter landscape – you can see the Niedere Mountain from its best side here! Inhale fresh air and enjoy the sun, leave sporty tracks on ski or board or with snow shoes. Or hike foot though beautiful snow-covered winter landscapes... Families, ambitious skiers, walkers and snow tour hikers can discover many opportunities to feel the splendour of the snow and enjoy the silent white winter landscape on Niedere Mountain. The magnificent panorama outlined by the mountain chain of the upper Bregenzerwald and summit views as far as Switzerland, Allgäu and Tyrol, bring the mountains within reach.
Schtûbat ... unsere Einkaufstipps

For example, you can visit the region's biggest indoor swimming pool Aquaria in Oberstaufen, see Vorarlberg’s largest nature show inatura in Dornbirn or go on a real shopping spree once again…and enjoy the region's delicacies – you are certain to find something here:
Ritlop – Stefan Ritlop Metzgerei and Partyservice, Hof 534 – The somewhat different butcher’s shop!
